Land Registry Form ID1
It is necessary to complete Land Registry Form ID1 to prove your identity if you are transferring property in England and Wales and you are not using solicitors.
Although 95% of my work as a notary is notarising documents for use oversea I have been seeing more people recently to countersign their Land Registry Form ID1 for property in the UK. Three recent clients were getting divorced and had agreed the transfer of the former family home into the name of one person. I witnessed their signature and countersigned the photograph for the form. Two weeks later the Land Registry in Weymouth telephoned me to confirm that i had actually seen the person who had signed the form. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/verify-identity-citizen-id1
